Live Blogging Jeremy Lin’s Return Vs. Blazers

As most of you know, I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from watching Rockets games, since Lin has been sidelined, due to a knee injury. Well, Lin will be back to face off against the Blazers tonight and I’ll be watching and doing live commenting using this post. Would be great if you could join me here and we can watch the game together virtually.

I’m glad to see Lin is healthy, but there isn’t a very high probability that it will be advantageous for Lin to return tonight against one of the hottest teams in the NBA that’s definitely the MOST IMPROVED team in the NBA. What do you guys think about Lin’s return?

Lin doesn’t shy away from challenges and is not someone who is overly concerned with his personal preservation (as evidenced by the amount of blood he sheds on the court), so I’m not surprised to see Lin return the moment Rockets embark on probably their toughest schedule so far this season. Lets hope he still has his stroke and isn’t too rusty tonight against a guard that Sampson feels the need to repeat the word “elite” to describe. Tonight should be a very interesting game.

On a very sad note, I just found out that McHale’s mother passed away. I know I complain a lot about McHale’s coaching, but I hope people can separate McHale’s coaching with him as a human being. As a human being, he seems like a great guy and he’s been through such profound personal matters. So I feel for him and can’t imagine what he’s going through. My condolences to McHale and his family.

My sincere condolences to Coach McHale and his family on the loss of his mother as well.

I will join your live blog of the game tonight, Philosopher. I am sure Lin wouldn’t come back if he did not feel 100%. A little rusty perhaps, but good to go full steam. I expect Lin to play around 20 min or so tonight. I think Lin will get more attention from the media in this game than the rest of his teammates. That will make LOHs hate Lin (and perhaps life) even more, I believe. πŸ™‚

    Letz go, JL7! How about a double/double tonight? Yes, I know, I’m delusional! πŸ™‚

Beat the MOST IMPROVED team in the NBA, again! πŸ™‚

    • I’ve been suddenly having a lot of issues with my Internet connection in the last hour or so. Not really sure what the problem is. Could be somewhat weather-related. But the connection keeps dropping out. Hopefully, I’ll still manage by the time the game starts. Right now, I’m just hoping I’ll be able to stream the game. We’ll see. Not looking good at all, though.

      • MrPingPong

Let’s hope you get your Internet connection working, Philosopher.
I’m here to keep you company!

        • Thanks so much for holding down the fort, MrPingPong. I really appreciate it!

  • MrPingPong

Neither team is shooting well so far, half way thru the first!
    Rockets 31%, Blazers 27%

    • Surprising, since they’re the number 1 and 2 offense.

  • MrPingPong

Lin’s drive to the basket looks good! The lift is there!

  • MrPingPong

Lin is playing with a lot of energy. I like what I see so far.

  • Lin played 1 minute and scored 2 pts. Beverly same production after 7 minutes. Too bad Lin already has 2 fouls.

    • MrPingPong

Lin is a little bit more aggressive than necessary. He wants it that way, I think.

  • Sampson totally disregarded Jeremy lin contributions. He said that rockets had 0 assists but Lin had the sole assist in the first quarter.

    • MrPingPong

Lin just needs some of the rust off. He will do fine. He is Mr. 4th quarter. But of course, Sampson will sit Lin the 4th.

  • MrPingPong

Garcia is cold. Sampson would not let Lin do his thing.

  • MrPingPong

    Half time…
    Neither team shoots well.
Lin is playing with a lot of energy. I think he will get the rust off more quickly if Sampson lets him play more, which I believe won’t happen.
Howard, not being double teamed, is playing well scoring with his post moves on Lopez.

  • MrPingPong

    Parsons needs to sit down.

  • MrPingPong

Lin is in for Bev at 4:20.
    Letz go LIN!

  • MrPingPong

The ball needs to be in Lin’s hand. Give the ball to Lin!

    • MrPingPong

Lin drives and feeds to Howard: dunk!

      • MrPingPong

Lin attacks, gets hit hard; 1 of 2 FTs.
        LMA is on fire though.
        Howard playing well.

  • MrPingPong

Lin made a stupid foul on LMA.
    Lin has 4 fouls now.
    Bad news!
Lin is rusty with the 3 ptr.

    • Lin’s three point hasn’t been the same since his record 9 three pointers game. Hope he gets his stroke back.

  • MrPingPong

4th quarter: all tied up at 76.
    Can Lin play more?
Harden and Howard are carrying the team.
Portland is more balanced with 4 guys in double figures.
    LMA has the hot hand.
    Lillard not so much.

    • I looked at the box score. Looks like Lillard either got shut down or just had an off night.

  • MrPingPong

Lin can’t keep up with Mo.
Still Lin must play to get the rust off.

  • MrPingPong

I’d be surprised if Lin gets back in the game.
Lin is a step slow, which is understandable.

  • Forthelin

Honestly, I think Sampson is a worse coach than McHale. He is even less creative and original, and I didn’t think that was possible.

    • MrPingPong

Didn’t you watch last year, when Sampson was coaching in place McHale? Sad story…

      • Forthelin

Sampson makes Jason Kidd look animated as a game coach.

        • MrPingPong

          Ha ha

    • Yeah, Sampson was horrible for Lin last season when he took over. Like MrPingPong commented in a previous post, it’s Deja Vu all over again.

  • Forthelin

That’s how the Rockets lose their games–Harden keeps the ball, tries a highlight play, turns the ball over, and do it again next possession. Sampson must know this doesn’t work, so he has Harden do it again on the next possession, then has someone feed it to Howard inside. I wonder if the opposing coaches see this pattern as well and have thought about how to defend it?!

    • MrPingPong

      Harden does his usual thing…
Howard played really well, but not enough…

    • Sounds like the usual stuff caused Rockets to lose last night. Opposing coaches definitely know EXACTLY what the Rockets do during crunch time and that’s why Rockets keep losing close games.

  • Forthelin

Down by 11, and Harden and Beverly just dribbling the ball up and down. Sampson, you ever heard of ball movement, where you get your players to pass the ball to each other and move around the halfcourt trying to get open or try to get into transition?

    • MrPingPong

      Same thing with McHale though…
I wonder what they do in practice.
Lin only gets to practice with the second unit, I’m sure.
      What a waste!

      Anyway, onto the Dubs…
The Dubs have not been playing that well lately…
Lin needs to have at least 20 min running the show to make a difference though.
I like Lin’s energy tonight. He just needs to play more to get his groove back.

      • Lin should do better tonight in the Dubs game (that is, if Sampson lets Lin play). He’s playing in front of his home crowd. Ha ha. But seriously, I think Lin needed to just shake off the rust a little, so from what I’m seeing Lin did pretty much what I expected him to do in the Blazers game.

  • MrPingPong

It’s a stretch here, but considering how used up the Rockets starters are after tonight’s game, Lin may get to play more tomorrow against GSW. Just watching Lin’s play, I think Lin will be up to it.

    • Of course Lin will be ready tomorrow, because he hardly played tonight. BEVERLY can’t guard Curry so they might as well use offense vs offense. LIN usually does well against the Dubs and Curry.

  • ashley

Didn’t watch the game, but learned from the news that Lin played less than 15 minutes, the least time ever this season, excluding the the previous one. Both H & H played 42 minutes, and both Parsons and PB played nearly 40 minutes. So we can conclude that McHale, however hated by Lin fans, is still better for Lin than Sampson is.

It’s sad that McHale suffered the loss of his dear one again, but it’s a bit odd that the same thing would seem to be happening again to Lin as a Rocket. The difference is that the Lin early last season wasn’t a great player, but this season’s Lin is much improved and hence deserves more playing time. I suspect even if the starters were used up this game, Lin still won’t get much trust in the coming games. Sigh!

    • Granted, Lin had four fouls at the end, but Lin’s unit was performing +, then Harden and Dwight came back in and the ball movement stopped, and Sampson did nothing about it, just the same old give the ball to Harden and Dwight show–the key to the current Knicks success– while Portland was playing Rocket ball, running gunning and blowing out their opponent.

      • Man, that’s frustrating to see. Sounds like they should have left Lin’s unit out there a little longer. The H+H show lost games to the worst team in the NBA and mediocre team, yet, Sampson and McHale are blinded by their “superstar-fucking mentality”, which is an issue for the entire league, as I’ve discussed in a previous post.

    • It’s does feel like Deja Vu, as MrPingPong pointed out in his comments to a previous post.

      • MrPingPong

        Hello Lin fans/non-fans…

So Lin is back in the Bay area, his original playing ground.
Having played only 14+ min last night, Lin will have fresher legs and can deliver if Sampson lets him.

I scanned the Golden State of MInd site and came away with the impression that fans there are not happy with their stars playing heavy minutes and wearing themselves out.

So it will be the battle of the stars tonight. The Dubs have one day of rest, and they are playing at home.

I am an optimist, but I don’t feel good about this, especially with Lin playing only sparingly.

  • Man, that sucks I missed out on all the live commenting. So here’s an update with my Internet issue.

I noticed that it was really slowing up late afternoon yesterday, and then by the time I sent out that comment about my Internet issues, I was having a lot of trouble just loading up simple web pages and the connection kept getting lost. In fact, I had to try several times before that comment went finally went through. I was on the phone with my Internet Service Provider to figure out what happened. I figured that it must have been some region-wide thing, because I’ve actually NEVER had any Internet issues that are unique to me since I installed my service two years ago. Been very happy with my connection. But they said they hadn’t had any reports of service issues in my area. The representative couldn’t figure out my issue and just re-setted my connection and scheduled to have a technician come out (was scheduled for 10AM to 12 AM today).

I kept testing out my connection all last night and I couldn’t get any web pages to load consistently. So I missed the entire game. I couldn’t even follow the play by play feed of the game on Houston Rockets website. And couldn’t get on this blog or any other sites to see what was happening with the game. And still had the same issues when I went to bed.

When I woke up this morning, however, my connection seems to be fine. I did one of those Internet Speed Tests and everything looked great. So I called my Internet Service Provider to see if they figured out what happened. The rep told me that she noticed that my connection has actually been slowing down over the past week or so and offered to do this thing (which I was unfamiliar with) that involves “re-positioning my modem”. I still don’t quite know what it’s all about, but from what I understand, when you sign up for Internet service, they position your modem on their server or something like that. I’m not a techie, so don’t know much about this stuff. Anyway, she said that when you’ve had the service for a while your service slows so when you “re-position” the modem it is as if they’re setting up a fresh new set up for you. So this is something really good to know. Anyway, I cancelled the appointment and everything seems to be working well. As good as new, literally!

    • MrPingPong

‘Good to hear that your Internet connection is back to normal. What the rep told you sounded like BS to me. Anyway, how old is your modem? My DSL modem (with ATT) after a couple of years of usage started misbehaving. I ended up had to buy a new modem and everything worked fine afterwards.

I am now with a different service provider using a different modem. So far so good!

So, live blog for the Dubs game tonight, Philosopher?

      • I may not be a techie, but I’m a great BS-detector. What that rep told me is legitimate. I’ve noticed that certain applications I run, which require very high speeds, actually runs even better today after the “re-positioning”. So it is a good idea to “re-position” your modem if you’ve had the service for a little while. Probably 1.5 years. But it’s a good idea to run Internet Speed Tests every now and then and call up your ISP if you see any drops in your speed. “Re-positioning” gives your Internet connection fresh life. This has nothing to do with the physical modem device, it’s the connection or wherever they initially “put” your modem in their server when they first installed it. Again, since I’m not a techie, I’m probably confusing a lot of terms here.

I have an excellent cable modem. Did a lot of research, as I do with all things I purchase, before finally purchasing it. It’s the Motorola SB6121. i bought it two years ago, but it is still a great model for today (not out of date whatsoever). I’ll add it in my Favorites list in my Amazon Favorites widget located in the sidebar for those interested. Like I said, I’ve actually never had a problem with my Internet connection and it is due to this modem.

Yeah, lets do a live blog for tonight, since I missed out last night.
